Boise States Broncos vs. The Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.!
This week it's Boise States Broncos vs. The Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.! Last year we took em' down by a land slide, 40-14. How will we do against them this year on the "smurf turf"? Were standing at 2-2 while their at 0-3, I'm pretty confident we can take them down this year. And I'm sure all of you Bronco fans out there know we can!
But the big question is; even though we probably are going to win, how are we going to treat our visiting team? I would like to think with respect and some dignity. "With success comes attention, with attention comes cockiness, with cockiness comes arrogance, and with arrogance comes rudeness. Basically, this is what happened to a small school from Idaho." Stated bleacherreport.com who ranked us the 20th rudest fan base in the country while Southern Miss. didn't even make the list. That's disappointing personally and should be for all of our fans. The same site also stated that Southern Miss. were ranked 83rd out of the most loyal fan base last year even though they didn't win a single game, while we ranked 24th most loyal.
What does that tell us? We're rude and loyal. Is that because were proud? Why is it that a team who didn't win a single game last year made the most loyal fan base list but not the rudest? My guess is because they don't really have anything to be proud of, they don't have any ground to stand on to even start a debate.
What can we do as Boise State fans to have a better reputation? Why can't we be proud and polite? Because not all Boise State fans represent our team in a rude manner, let's not forget that!

Hello Karly, I really enjoyed reading through your post and enjoyed the one picture you posted. That is truly a great picture of Bronco Stadium filled thousands of loyal fans! You do bring up a good argument about our fan base being the 20th rudest fan base in the nation. I wouldn’t see that coming from Boise State, but maybe some people have a little to much to drink some times and say the wrong things haha. I believe all bronco fans are proud of what this program has done over the years don’t you? I mean only losing 2 games on the blue in how many years, that’s crazy! How long have you been a Bronco fan? What has been your favorite game since you have been a Bronco fan? I know mine would have to be the 2007 Fiesta Bowl with all the trickery. When your team wins a lot you can kind of brag and be a little cocky, that’s where I think the rudeness comes from. I’m proud we have a lot of loyal fans like you! Go Broncos!
ReplyDeleteMyself and my sister, we've been fans for a while, I can't even remember how long, honestly probably since the Fiesta Bowl. The rest of our family are U of I fans, when they wear their gear they still get glares and little digs from BSU fans so I just though it was really interesting that even tho we had a rivalry with them for so many years, and now they aren't even on the same page as far as being recognized or wins that they still get treated that way, but I will admit sometimes we given them a little bit of a hard time, but we're family not strangers. I would just assume they would be looked over. I guess their in the same situation kind of as southern miss. they aren't a winning team but they are still loyal and don't have as much to be proud of since they still aren't winning a lot.
ReplyDeleteI think BSU has come a long way and we are allowed to be proud of who we are now and we have every reason to be, especially like you said since we have only lost 2 games in a while at home!
Karly,
ReplyDeleteYou definitely are hitting the right target audience with this! Boise as a whole has a very strong sense of pride with the football team. The blue turf and the football team is a huge identifier for Boise. I have lived in a few different parts of the country, and Canada over the last 3 years playing hockey, and when I say I am from Boise, with out fail, the blue turf and BSU football is the first thing mentioned! ... Well that and potatoes haha
Thank you! Yeah I work in a call center and when they ask where in the country I am I tell them Idaho they go right to "OH they have that team with the blue field huh?" and of course the potatoes...
